Cathy Carey

Dr. Cathy Carey serves as a Professor of Economics at the University of Southern Indiana (USI). With over three decades dedicated to academia, she has held pivotal leadership roles, including Dean of the Romain College of Business at USI and Interim Dean of the Gordon Ford College of Business at Western Kentucky University (WKU). Beginning her academic journey as an Assistant Professor of Economics at WKU in 1992, Dr. Carey advanced to the rank of Professor by 2008. She further distinguished herself by serving as Chair of the WKU Department of Economics for six years. Outside of academia, she has been a key contributor to state-wide economic initiatives, particularly through her involvement in Kentucky’s Consensus Forecasting Group. A recognized scholar, she has published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and delivered presentations to regional, statewide, and national organizations. Her leadership and contributions to the field were celebrated when she was named the 2021 Distinguished Economist by the Kentucky Economic Association (KEA).

With roots on a farm in central Kentucky and a profound passion for agribusiness, Dr. Carey took a transformative step in 2023. She became certified in Equine Assisted Learning, subsequently founding Carey Springs Farm, LLC. Merging her broad academic knowledge and leadership acumen with innovative equine-assisted strategies, Dr. Carey presents a unique and proven learning model for professional development. This approach provides teams and leaders with invaluable insights, seamlessly connecting the horse-herd paradigm with practical real-world applications – a powerful lens for understanding group dynamics, leadership, and collaboration.
